By default, both Windows 10 and macOS display the screens in white background with black text. Dark Mode in macOS Mojave
Windows 10 Dark Mode Vs macOS Mojave Dark Mode
The dark mode is a wonderful feature in macOS that applies the color scheme for the entire Mac. It includes the default apps like Pages, Notes, etc. Most of the Mac apps has an option to enable light mode only for that app when dark mode is enabled. This will help to choose what exactly you want on individual apps though entire Mac is running on dark mode.
Unfortunately, dark mode works only on File Explorer and few other apps in Windows 10. On Edge and Office apps you need to separately setup the theme or background regardless of system wide settings. We hope Microsoft will update Windows 10 to have the system wide dark mode in a good looking manner integrated with the core apps.

Though Windows 10 and macOS offer dark mode, it is up to the individual third party apps to adopt this setting. Due to this reason, you will still see most of the apps work with default white or grey backgrounds since they will not support the dark mode. We believe, this new feature will take some time for developers to implement on their apps and it will become easy to toggle between light and dark modes for individual apps later point of time.
